Description:  While two types atoms fall through a standing lightwave to a surface, only one type is affected by the lightwave. Starting on the left, the three diagrams depict standing lightwaves channeling dopant atoms into parallel lines, shifted 90 degrees to produce parallel lines that are perpendicular to the lines of the layer beneath them, and gradually rotating to channel the dopant in a spiral pattern.
